News to me! I was fairly certain satellite radio had such high market penetration that even the Amish were listening.
After picking up my copy of the Naperville Sun and blogging about it I did my routine email checking and discovered this:
Hey Eli,
This is Brian Whitkanack, I work at 95.9FM “The River” on the Morning Blend. We read your story in the paper this morning, and we are interested in talking to you about your problem. We’d really appreciate a buzz. Our show is from 5-9am, if you get this today before 9am call us at 630.585.7529 (PLAY), that’d be great. But i understand, not everyone gets up at 330 in the AM, so if you don’t get this until after 9am, email us this weekend at morningshow@959theriver.fm. Hope things are a bit more peaceful for you.

So I called, waited on hold for quite a while, and finally spoke with Geno Brien of “The Morning Blend“. I suppose I deserve the spin the story got, because when he asked me if I listened to “The River” I responded something along the lines of, “I didn’t even know FM radio was still around.”
Either way, I clipped out the Bon Jovi, U2, and 3 hours of commercials to get this:

what an ignorant jackass “geno” is. I wonder if it’s just an act, or if that’s really him?
Good luck with getting things resolved (and a good night’s sleep).
Best,

So I wrote to “Geno”. He wrote back. Here’s the his reply (with my original note attached). What does it mean to “back-peddle”?

david,
well you present yourself in a much more professional manner, judging from your choice for the subject of the email.
let me just say that i appreciate the time it took for you to delve deep into the dictionary to find just the right words to make your point.
as far as the audio, i know what i say most of the time, and except for a slip of the tongue, i tend to not back-peddle.
eli’s story ticks me off, as do many stories where one person wants the world to revolve around them. i don’t care who got there first. i don’t care how you describe his plight.
if you think i am ignorant, so be it. if you want it to be my “thing,” so be it. all i can say is that people are entitled to their opinions. and that includes me.
as far as listening to FM and being surprised that there are still broadcasts…go ahead and pay for satellite radio. there may be very few commericals now. but it’ll be just like satellite t.v. before you know it, and you’ll still be paying to hear it.
good luck to you. with your vocabulary and tact, you’re going to need it.

Have you ever listened to yourself?

I suspected you were an idiot from the lead-ins that you offered
before the interview, but it seemed every word you said did more and
more to confirm your idiocy.
So, tell me, is it just an act? Is that your _thing_?
Thanks in advance,
David

Haha, well, I’m not sure what you expected. Of course it’s his “thing”, he’s doing all he can to fill the boots of the stereotypical early-morning DJ. I have a hard time getting worked up over it. It is FM after all, and god forbid his 47 listeners heard him trashing me on air.
